As the proud owner of a new or pre-owned Chevrolet in the Middlesboro area, you’ll find it useful to discover all of the features you can unlock when you learn how to program your Chevy Universal Home Remote. Follow this simple guide from Redmond Chevrolet and you’ll be well on your way to HomeLink® remote mastery. Here, we’ll show you how to program the Chevy Universal Home Remote to open your Corbin garage, but you can apply similar steps when setting up other compatible devices.
Programming Your Chevy Universal Home Remote: Initial Setup
Park your vehicle in front of your garage, making sure that there’s a clear path between your car and the garage door receiver,
Confirm that your garage door opener has new batteries.
Access your vehicle’s center display.
Tap the Controls App then tap “Universal Remotes.” If necessary, tap “See More Controls” to access “Universal Remotes.”
Tap “Add Remote.”
If your garage door opener has a hand-held transmitter, tap “Yes.” Otherwise, follow the alternate steps you see on your center display screen.
After you tap “Yes,” hold the transmitter approximately 1-3 inches away from your rearview mirror. Press and hold the handheld transmitter button, and don’t let go until you see “Signal Found” on your center display screen.
Now you can test out your Universal Home Remote System. Tap the “Test” button on the screen. Repeat this if necessary.
If your garage door moved, congratulations! You’ve successfully programmed your Chevy Universal Home Remote and can now use it as your garage door opener. Tap “It Worked” on your center display screen to close out the process.
If your garage door didn’t move, tap “It Didn’t Work” and move to step 11.
Go to your garage door receiver. It’s probably mounted near the ceiling of your garage. Find and press the “Learn” or “Smart” button that’s usually located near the antenna wire.
Return to your vehicle quickly, and tap the “Test” button again within 30 seconds.
Tap “It Worked” and close out the process if your garage door moved; otherwise, check your Owner’s Manual in case there are other steps you need to take to program your Universal Home Remote.
Chevy Universal Home Remote Troubleshooting
If the HomeLink® indicator light is quickly flashing after attempting the above steps for programming your Universal Home Remote, you will need to synchronize HomeLink® to your garage door opener using a time-sensitive process. It may be helpful if another person stands ready in the garage while you remain in your vehicle to undergo the following steps. With these simple additional steps, you can program your Chevy Universal Home Remote via HomeLink®:
Find the garage door opener motor inside your garage.
Search for the “Smart” or “Learn” button on your garage door opener, which is generally beside the antenna wire hanging on the back of the motor. If you can’t find it, reference the owner’s manual of your garage door opener to find the exact location of the button.
Push the “Smart” or “Learn” button once and you’ll have a 30-second window to finish the next step.
In your vehicle, press your programmed HomeLink® control button three times with a two-second interval between presses. This will finish the activation process.
The original remote control transmitter and the HomeLink® wireless control system, once programmed, can be used with your Chevy Universal Home Remote.
